Realizing the need for institutional framework (platform) for coordinated population and reproductive health activities, the Consortium of Reproductive Health Associations (CORHA) was established by seven founding members in 1995.
The purpose of its establishment include among others:-

To encourage NGOs involvement and bring impact in reproductive health activities through collective, collaborative and coordinated action.

To serve as a focal point for reproductive health NGOs

To act as a bridge between NGOs and Government
-
To create a mechanism for information sharing among members and partners to enhance networking
-
To have a greater voice and bring more influence
CORHA has adopted two fundamental statements of values or philosophy:-

Reproductive health is a basic human right and
-
Gender equity and equality are sentential. Several “values” that characterize CORHA, include integrity, transparency, equality, fairness, compliance with government requirements, and partnership.
CORHA's policies and programs are featured under four strategic directions:-
- Capacity Building
- Coordination and Networking
- Advocacy
- Resource Mobilization
